2020 Season Coronavirus Update

Dear Yalesville Little League Families,

We’re all living through an unprecedented time that continues to change on a daily – often hourly – basis. There’s no doubt that our lives have been upended in the ways that we live, work, learn and play. Through this time, the choices we are making place protecting the health of the players, coaches and  entire community above all else.

Previously, Little League International had provided guidance recommending a suspension of all league activities until April 8th.

With the most recent guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Little League International Board of Directors is now strongly advising all its local Little League programs to suspend/delay their Little League seasons through no earlier than Monday, May 11

Yalesville Little League will adhere to this guidance along with the direction from local, state and federal officials and suspend all league activities through at least Monday, May 11th.  Based upon this decision the following scheduled activities are now delayed.

  • Junior League, Majors and AAA drafts and team selections
  • Coaches meeting scheduled for 3/24
  • Opening Day ceremonies
  • Season start for all divisions

In addition, during this interim period coaches are prohibited from gathering groups of their team’s returning players to their teams and holding practices.  Fields remain closed for practices.

You are encouraged to visit https://www.littleleague.org/player-safety/coronavirus-update/ for additional details.  We have highlighted some of the FAQs below.

It is our hope that by taking these actions now we may play a small part in reducing the overall impact of the pandemic and be able to put together a modified Little League season this year.

Sincerely,

Ray Gomes

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How was the May 11 date chosen for resuming Little League activities?

Following the latest recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to refrain from gatherings for at least eight weeks, the leadership at Little League International chose the May 11 to coincide with that guidance. The previous recommendation was April 6, however, LLI is now advising all leagues suspend/delay their activities until May 11.

  1. Will the recommended date of May 11th be pushed back and if so when will we know the update?

We recognize that this is the heart of the traditional Little League season, and we share in the great disappointment that many are feeling surrounding this additional pause in the 2020 season. However, it is our hope that by doing this, we will all play a small, but important part in flattening the curve in the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

We will continue to consult with appropriate medical advisors, government health officials and our volunteer leaders around the world, and we are committed to doing the best we can for the safety and wellbeing of our players, families, volunteers, and fans.

As this situation evolves, Little League International is committed to sharing the best guidance possible for all of our 6,500 leagues in more than 84 countries. It is our sincere hope that we can find ways to bring everyone back to the Little League fields this season, whether that’s later this spring or throughout the summer.

  1. How is this going to impact the Little League International Tournament and eligibility?

Currently, Little League International is working through all possible scenarios for the 2020 Little League International Tournament and tournament eligibility for our leagues and players in our various divisions of play.

  1. Will there be a refund of registration fees?

It is our sincere hope that we can find ways to bring everyone back to the Little League fields this season, whether that’s later this spring or throughout the summer. LL International will be providing guidance on how leagues can operate a modified season that could extend into the summer months in flexible fashion for participants. Little League regular season activities can extend throughout the summer and fall. Once we have determined the extent of the season we will continue to be transparent and explain any pro-rated refund or future credit.
